THE MOCOMBO IN HABANA PROJECT  features two CD's 'Habana Libre' and 'Bucanero Dance' and a film documentary featuring a day in the life of The Contemporary Dance Company of Cuba.

The filming and recording took place between 2006-2008 in Havana, Cuba. The music features an all-star line up of some of Cuba's best musicians and is Co-produced with Cuban arranger and director, Roberto Riveron.

'Habana Libre' features more up-tempo songs while 'Bucanero Dance' is easy listening and more retrospective in nature.

Historically, it seems half the planet has a lot of rhythm while the other half has a lot of harmony.  Cuba has managed to master both rhythm and harmony.

Cuba's rich music tradition is really influenced by African spiritual rituals and musical traditions.  Cuba has also developed its own harmonic complexities as a result of the cultural blending with Spain and the European tradition of Western harmony. Afro-Cuban in nature, the music of Cuban is sophisticated on all levels.  Rhythmically, harmonically and spiritually, Cuban music is filled with passion and enthusiasm.

Cuban people are very 'warm' and poetic people! Their courage in face the many current social challenges is highly commendable.

A lot of great people participated in this project!  Thanks for listening!!
